About This Age Calculator

This free age calculator tells you your exact age down to the day — not just the year. Enter your date of birth and the calculator works out your precise age in years, months, weeks, days, and hours. You can also change the “as of” date to calculate someone’s age on a specific past or future date, which is useful for everything from filling out forms to planning milestone birthdays.

What This Calculator Shows You

Enter your date of birth and get your exact age in years, months, and days, your total lifespan expressed in months, weeks, days, and hours, how many days remain until your next birthday, and fun life estimates including heartbeats, meals, and nights of sleep.

How Age Is Calculated

Age calculation is more nuanced than it looks. The calculator counts full calendar years first, then full months, then remaining days — the same method used on official documents. For example, someone born on March 31 turns one year older on March 31, regardless of the month length. Leap years are handled correctly: someone born on February 29 celebrates their birthday on February 28 in non-leap years.

When to Use the “As Of” Date

The default “as of” date is today. Change it to calculate age on a specific date — for example, how old you were on your graduation day, how old a child will be when they start school, or the exact age of a historical figure on a significant date. The tool works just as accurately for future dates as it does for the past.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is exact age calculated?
The calculator counts full years from your birth date to the “as of” date, then full months in the remaining period, then the remaining days. This matches the method used on passports, medical forms, and legal documents worldwide.
What if I was born on February 29 (leap day)?
The calculator handles leap-day birthdays correctly. In non-leap years, your birthday is treated as February 28 for the purposes of calculating your age and birthday countdown. You still turn one year older every year.
Can I calculate someone else’s age?
Yes — just enter their date of birth. The “as of” date defaults to today but you can set it to any date in the past or future. This makes it easy to calculate a child’s age for school enrolment, an elderly relative’s age for a milestone party, or a historical figure’s age at a specific point in time.
Why does my age sometimes show a different number of days?
The remaining days after counting full years and months depend on how many days are in the current month. February has 28 or 29 days, while other months have 30 or 31. This is normal and correct — the calculation always uses the actual calendar.
How accurate are the fun facts estimates?
The fun facts are estimates based on typical averages — around 70 heartbeats per minute at rest, 3 meals per day, and 8 hours of sleep per night. They are intended as interesting context, not medical or scientific measurements. Individual numbers will vary significantly.
